I came across the familiar passage and yet I was stopped in my tracks.
“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.” (Matthew 7:7-8).
This verse can be simplified to three words:
Ask, Seek, & Knock.
What seized my mind was the realization that I utilize two of the three verbs, but not all three. Daily, I pull my little red chair up to God’s throne and seek His face. At times, I may even knock on the leg of His throne or tug on the hem or His garment. But rarely do I actually ask Him for specific needs. In essence I’ve been knocking on heaven’s door, staring at His amazing face, mouth agape.
There is a time to be speechless in His presence. However Matthew commands we act on all three verbs, ask, seek, and knock. Today, I pulled my little red chair up to God’s throne. Seeking His face, I knocked on heaven’s door with list of specific requests. Today I asked, sought, and knocked and “it is well with my soul.”
